The Peanut InstituteThe Peanut Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding state-of-the-art knowledge regarding peanuts and peanut products. A special emphasis is placed on establishing sound science as the basis for food, nutrition, and health discussions about peanuts. American Peanut CouncilThe American Peanut Council (APC) is the trade association which represents all segments of the peanut industry. Members include peanut growers, peanut shellers, brokers, peanut product manufacturers, and suppliers of goods and services to the industry. Headquartered in the metropolitan Washington, DC area, the APC monitors developments in the domestic and international markets and responds with a diverse array of domestic and international marketing, trade servicing, research and issues management programs. The APC maintains close working relationships with government agencies, research institutions and related peanut and agricultural trade associations. Virginia Peanut Growers AssociationThe VIRGINIA PEANUT GROWERS ASSOCIATION., INC. is the peanut grower organization in Virginia. It's purpose is to conduct promotion, education and research activities for Virginia type peanuts. It publishes the grower publication, "Virginia-Carolina Peanut News" three times a year jointly with The North Carolina Peanut Growers Association and the South Carolina Peanut Producers Board. National Peanut BoardThe National Peanut Board is a research and promotion board that works on behalf of all USA peanut farmers. The Board's goal is to support and expand existing markets, develop new markets, and facilitate the economical production of high-quality, USA peanuts for consumers worldwide. March is Virginia Peanut MonthVirginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine designates March 2006 Virginia Peanut Month - a special month just to celebrate Virginia peanuts. Virginia Peanut FestivalCome join us in Emporia, VA on Main street for the 44th Annual Peanut Festival every September. The Virginia Peanut Festival offers arts, crafts, food, kid's events, a parade, farm equipment, music, and entertainment and makes a great family event. Suffolk Peanut FestThis year marks the 29th Anniversary of Suffolk, Virginia's premier festival. This family-friendly event honors the city's agricultural heritage and devotion to peanuts. Known for its fun family activities, Suffolk Peanut Fest offers a peanut butter sculpture contest, horseshoe tournament, amusement rides, petting zoo, cheerleading and yo-yo competitions and more. There's great entertainment and attracts visitors from all over the US and Canada. Great Peanut TourEvery September the Emporia Bicycle Club hosts four great days of bicycle riding and touring in beautiful Southside Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. Snacks are provided at designated stops, including peanuts of course! The Great Peanut Tour, the focal event of the weekend is an interesting 13 mile tour through beautiful Greensville County. The ride includes three stops: one to sample a large variety of peanuts and other products at the home of a peanut farmer, and one to show equipment, discuss peanut farming, harvesting, and marketing, and one more stop. |
